Your undertone is the steady color beneath the surface of your skin. Your skin can tan, flush or look paler in winter, but the undertone stays the same. It is the reason one foundation looks fresh on you while another looks grey, and why some reds make you glow.
The three undertones
- Warm: a golden, peachy or yellow cast. Gold jewelry usually looks natural.
- Cool: a pink, red or bluish cast. Silver often looks brighter.
- Neutral: a balance of both. Many colors work, and the softer version of each usually works best.
Three quick checks at home
- Your wrist: in daylight, greener veins lean warm, bluer veins lean cool and a mix suggests neutral.
- White or cream: hold each under your chin. Bright white tends to suit cool undertones, cream suits warm ones.
- Gold or silver: notice which one makes your skin look more even next to your face.
These checks are a good start, but they depend on the light and on your own eyes. That is where a reading from a clear photo helps.

Tip
Daylight from the front shows your undertone more honestly than warm indoor bulbs, which push every skin tone toward yellow.
Personal Color Analysis in VIPAD
Personal Color Analysis reads one clear photo and describes your color temperature, your undertone and the overall direction of your coloring. It lists your best colors, explains why they work with your eyes, hair and skin, and tells you how confident the reading is and how the light in your photo affected it.

In the app
Overall direction, undertone, confidence, lighting and best colors, each explained in plain words.
You choose whether to add the result to your Beauty Profile. Once it is there, Beauty AI can use it when you ask what to wear, which lipstick to try or which hair color might suit you.
Putting your undertone to work
- Foundation and concealer: match the undertone first, then the depth.
- Lipstick: warm undertones often love coral, brick and warm red, cool undertones berry, plum and blue red.
- Hair color: copper and golden tones tend to flatter warm undertones, ash and cool browns cool ones.
- Clothes near the face: the colors on your best colors list are the easiest place to start.
